[The Cherokees had finally given up on keeping any of their eastern lands and had departed for new territory in the west, in what is now northeastern Oklahoma.] John was living in Cherokee County in the Censuses of 1840 and 1850. There is a family tradition that he may have moved to Floyd County, Georgia ("The Flatwoods" north of Rome, Georgia), shortly after 1850. He may have died in Georgia, or he may have moved back to Alabama before his death, but the Cherokee County Census of 1860 lists Eletha (given as Eliza) as the head of the household with her younger children. John Parsons died before 1870. [Probably died in Georgia, but could have died in Cherokee County, Alabama. One source shows he died abt 1860.].

He moved with his father's family to Floyd County, Georgia shortly after 1850 and settled in "The Flatwoods" north of Rome, Georgia. He left the family after a short time in Georgia, migrating to Pike County, Arkansas where he settled near Wolf Creek Post Office between the present Delight and Pike City, Arkansas. James Thomas "Jim" Parsons married Mary Ann Davis, daughter of John Davis I and Nancy ______, on December 15, 1853 at Pike County, AR. James Thomas "Jim" Parsons died on June 25, 1881 at Pike County, AR, at age 52. One source says death occurred on Jun 24 1881 but the following obituary written contemporaneously with the event indicates otherwise. "On Saturday the 25th inst. (June 25, 1881) we lost two of our best farmers and citizens. Mr. John Davis about 79 years of age died at 12:20 o'clock Saturday morning after an extended illness of two months. Mr. J.T. Parsons son-in-law of Mr. Davis and who was there with him, went out about 4 o'clock in the morning to saddle his horse, intending to ride home, but finding the horse of Mr. R. Davis in the same stable, he proceeded to take it out and put it in another, and while placing the poles across the door the horse kicked at him and struck the pole which caused it to strike him across the spleen. After this he saddled his horse and returned to the house, and, while sitting there talking, he complained of his side and wanted to lie down, but before he reached the room, he fainted and fell to the piazza floor. He recovered once only to tell the story of the horse kicking him over the spleen, and then he died, just thirty minutes after the accident. Both these gentlemen were industrious farmers and good citizens, and we feel very sorry to lose them so suddenly." J.F. Louis, Wolf Creek, June 26 - Southern Standard, Arkadelphia, Arkansas, July 2, 1881.

She was enumerated with John Davis I on the Smith County, TN census dated October 1, 1850; Mary was shown at age 17 as a single white female born in Tennessee. She was listed as attending school.
Mary Ann was the daughter of John and Nancy Davis. John and Nancy were both born in North Carolina. Mary Ann was likely born in Smith County, Tennessee on the Cumberland River between Peyton Creek and Defeated Creek. It is not known whether John and Nancy were married in North Carolina or in Tennessee, or when they moved to Tennessee. But they were in Tennessee in 1826 when their first child, Tabitha was born. When Mary Ann Davis was about sixteen years of age, [after October 1, 1850] the family moved to Arkansas, and shortly after 1850 they settled in the Brocktown community between present Delight and Murfreesboro, Pike County, Arkansas. John and Nancy died at Brocktown and they are buried in unidentified graves in Brocktown Cemetery (or possibly Saline Cemetery). Mary Ann Davis married James Thomas "Jim" Parsons, son of John Parsons and Eletha Jane Sewell, on December 15, 1853 at Pike County, AR.
