Nancy C. Cox

Harvey Cox was born on March 19, 1817 at Greenville District, SC. He was the son of Lieutenant Thomas B. Cox and Mary Olive "Polly" Henderson.      Harvey was killed in the Battle Of Goliad at Goliad Texas. He had come from South Carolina to Alabama to visit relatives. While there in 1836, he joined Captain Jack Shackleford's Company of Alabama Volunteers, part of a Regiment commanded by Colonel J. W. Fanin of Georgia. They left Alabama for New Orleans and later landed at Copano which is north of Corpus Christi, Texas on the north side of Copano Bay. From thence they marched to Goliad, Texas at about the time the Mexicans marched on the Alamo. Harvey was killed on 27 March 1836. There is a monument with the names of those killed in that battle and on it is carved the name Harvey Cox. The State Of Texas, when organized, awarded to Harvey's heirs two tracts of land -- one in payment for services rendered in the war, and one in appreciation of his services. These two tracts of land are located near Kountz in Hardin County, Texas. One tract was of 971 acres. For want of identification of heirs this land was sold to others and later became oil producing. Efforts by heirs of Harvey Cox to recover this land have been unsuccessful. Harvey Cox died on March 27, 1836 at Goliad, TX, at age 19.

Sarah Cox was born on June 1, 1819 at Greenville District, SC. She was the daughter of Lieutenant Thomas B. Cox and Mary Olive "Polly" Henderson. Sarah Cox died at Greenville District, SC. [as an infant].

Sarah Elydia "Liddia" or "Liddy" Dacus was born on September 15, 1833. She married Thomas Manley Cox, son of Lieutenant Thomas B. Cox and Mary Olive "Polly" Henderson, on September 1, 1850. Sarah Elydia "Liddia" or "Liddy" Dacus died on September 21, 1897 at age 64.

Isaac Cox was born on October 12, 1828 at Greenville District, SC. He was the son of Lieutenant Thomas B. Cox and Mary Olive "Polly" Henderson. Isaac Cox married Margaret Bryson. Isaac Cox married Mary E. Moore. Isaac Cox died on August 26, 1905 at Greenville District, SC, at age 76.

Nancy L. Baldwin married James Perry Cox, son of Lieutenant Thomas B. Cox and Mary Olive "Polly" Henderson, on February 6, 1859. Nancy L. Baldwin was born on March 25, 1881. She died on January 10, 1911 at Greenville District, SC, at age 29.

Elizabeth "Betsy" Brasher was born on April 1, 1825 at Greenville District, SC. She was the daughter of Lawrence Aquilla Brasher and Frances 'Franky" or "Frankie" Henderson. Elizabeth "Betsy" Brasher married Jedediah Henderson Sr on October 3, 1844 at Coweta County, GA. [One source has marriage year as 1847. ].      The 1850 Coweta County Georgia census indicates she was born in Georgia but the siblings born immediately before and after her were born in South Carolina. There is nothing to indicate that the family was in Georgia before about 1836 so we assume the census taker mistakenly indicated her birth place as Georgia. Elizabeth was a widow in 1850 and was living with her parents at the time of the census. She had a two year old male child.      She was enumerated with Lawrence Aquilla Brasher on the Coweta County, GA census dated August 10, 1850; Elizabeth Henderson was shown at age 25 as a white female born in Georgia. She could neither read nor write. Elizabeth "Betsy" Brasher married James W. Gurley circa 1858. Elizabeth "Betsy" Brasher died circa 1896 at Fayette County, AL.

John Henderson Brasher married Mary Ann Rebecca Dyer on September 18, 1851 at Coweta County, GA.      He purchased 119.06 acres of land in Alabama from the United States General Land Office on June 1, 1858.      He purchased 251 acres of land in Alabama from the United States General Land Office on July 2, 1860.      He purchased 120.21 acres of land in Alabama from the United States General Land Office on December 7, 1899. John Henderson Brasher died on November 13, 1914 at Coweta County, GA, at age 85. [One source has the place of death as Fayette County, AL.].
