Who is the husband of Lucinda Jane Alford?
It appears from the two e-mails shown below that Samuel Ward was not married to Lucinda Jane Alford. However, for now we'll leave everything as it is so as not to loose information. But clearly more research needs to be done to find her real husband.
From an e-mail sent to me by Ruth Culpepper.
"I see from Lee Ann Turner's ancestor list has Loucindia Jane Yeargan b. Mar. 22, 1859, Sevier. County, AR died 6-21-1945 Pike County, AR married Samuel Jack Ward b. May 16, 1855, Sevier County, AR d. Mar 31, 1936. his parents were William H. Ward and Nancy Cagle. My mother always said our L. Jane married an Osborne. She also said we were kin to the Wards, at least Tenisee E. Griffen was kin to the Wards. Did not know how. I believe if her aunt had been married to a Ward she would have known it. They were always interested in kin folks. We need to do some research on this."
From an e-mail sent to me by Lee Ann Turner:
"Don't know if I can help or not. I can't place a Lucinda Jane ALFORD, daughter of James Matthew Alford. Our Lucinda Jane was a YEARGAN, (daughter of William W. Yeargan and Mary E. Herndon.) The Herndon line has been researched rather extensively by Exie Green. I have a book she compiled but I think I let Walter have it to take home and copy some lineages .
The Ward information (some of it ) is from a family Bible that was in the possession of Dale Holder when I copied it. Dale was the husband of Cordie Ward Holder. Entries in the Bible show that Loucindia Jane Ware was borned March 22, 1859 and Samuel Jack Ward was borned May 16, 1855. A letter in the Bible says "Papa" died March 31, 1936 and "Mama" died June 21, 1945.
Both are buried at Bear Creek Cemetery, Pike Co. AR. Lucinda's stone says "wife of Sam" and Samuel's stone says "husband of Cinda".
II haven't traced many Alfords except trying to sort out all of old Dave's progeny. I'll ask Dorothy is she has any ideas. But for now, I'm convinced that our Lucinda Jane Yeargan Ward is not the same as Ruth's Lucinda Jane Alford."

                                                      1. [One source has her name as L. Jane.].
