Great Site! Yesterday all I knew was my great grandparent names and today I know my whole family history. My dad, Glen "BUD" L. KELLEY, Jr., was born and raised in Shawmut. He died in October 1999. I very interested in hearing from anyone who may have known him. He was 48 when I was born and would like to find out more about his first 48 years. I know he was good friends with the Mayor of Delight. I met him when he visited dad in the hospital, but I can't remember his name. He also was good friends with Charles Avery. If you knew BUD KELLEY please send me an e-mail. Thank you.

Enjoyed the site very much. Was referred by a "double cousin" with Pike County connections. The Westerman family was not mentioned in the Corinth Story, but they, too, were in Bedford Co. TN at one time. After they left Bedford Co., moving westward to Perry Co and Decatur Co., some of them had 1000 acres of land each. One family was located on the Buffalo River there. One was on the road to Nashville and the rest had land that went into the waters of the Tennessee River. There are many familiar names here other than Westerman including Huddleston, Alford,Coker, Harris, Henderson, Lingo, Fugate. Yerby Lingo was a neighbor of some of the Westermans back in Tenn. as well as at Nathan in Pike County. The other names I mentioned came from marriages. Thanks for a nice site. Will look forward to new info.

I was doing some research with the data base, and would like to correct a few errors I found. In the Jacksons; Betty (spelled Bettye) Jackson did not get married in 1965, altho she did get married in Idabel, Ok.. I called her and she is sending me the correct information. She did marry Luther Rector Woodruff, they have 3 children, the child listed is the second born. In the Woodruff database; Luther Rectors father is listed as Franklin Fay Mayben. Clara Meliese stokes married Luther Calvin Woodruff, and he is the father of all of Clara Meliese Woodruff's children. L.R. (Luther Rector) and Bettye Jackson Woodruff are my sister and brother in law. She is sending all of the corrected information to me and I will forward it to you as soon as I get it. Mr. and Mrs Woodruff have died, but all of their children are living so the corrected file for the most part will be private. Thanks Jan

I was very happy to find your site. Many of my League relatives are listed; especially Clearview Cemetery listings. My daughter, Beth Harvey Phillips is listed as well as my granddaughter. My granddaughter is listed as Mary Elizabeth Phillips but her name is Meryl Elizabeth Phillips. Another correction, My grandmother is listed as Emma Smith who married Thomas C. League; to my knowledge her name was Emmie not Emma. Also I thought that my grandfather's middle name was Coskery-- Thomas Coskery or Coskrey League. I appreciated the information on Creighton League. I notice you didn't have the year in which he died. I would like to find this out, if you should happen to have this information. Thank you so much. Their children were, Thomas,Alexander,Oscar, Ida Pearl,Rosie Belle & Alice Lee. Rosie is our Mother...born in Ashdown, Ark. In your 'Pictures' in your Ark. Connection, you have a picture of Tom,Alex,Oscar & Pearl Hignight when they were kids. Our mom never spoke of her family, except that her mom's maiden name was Alford. Anyone that can help us find Eliza's mom & dad, would really be appreciated. Mama Rosie married Benjamin Harrison Dollins, and lived in Paris,Tx Lamar Co. from the time they married Aug.25,1917 in Antlers, OK. Eliza divorced R.H.L. Hignight, and married Richard (Dick)Timberlake in 1916, as Recorded in the Paris,Co.Seat Marriage Records. We are so impressed with your layout, pictures, and info on your "Arkansas Connection." Especially Eliza Jane's 4 little Munchkins! James & Marianne Dollins

I am looking for any relatives of a William Dobyns born December 21, 1907 or 1908 in Mississippi County Arkansas (I think). He has been with my dad, who is originally from Kentucky, since around the 1950's until his death on December 19,1998. William had mentioned of being in Illinois at one time and getting married and having 2 children but that is all he ever said. We know nothing about his life, his family or even how or why they got seperated, but would love to find them. If anyone knows anything about him or any family members I would love to hear from you. Thank you

This is my first visit to your site. I did find info on some of my line and I plan to return again. You do have a nice site and good links to other data. I am researching tons of names, including the following (not all of these were from Arkansas): BELCHER, HOYLE, SOUTHERLAND, on my father's side. Paternal Grandmother was Ethel Candace Hoyle, married to McEwen (sp) Belcher est. 1893 or prior. He died in 1909 and is buried in Oakman Cemetery in Oklahoma. She remarried to Jonathan VOYLES in 1911. Can't find ANYTHING on Grampa Belcher before he married her. He was born in Henderson County, Texas about 1850. If anyone knows anything about him, please email me. Also researching JONES, WHISNANT, CRUMP on my mother's side. Also, Margaret Mahalia (?), first wife of a Mr. Whisnant (est.1845) and later married to Zacharriah M. PETTIT (1865). She had 6 known children by Whisnant and at least one by Pettitt.

This website has been so helpful in assiting me to fill in gaps on my Henderson Family research. Thank you for providing this information. How can I update your records with information on our line here in SC? Also, I believe that I spotted one typo. William C. Henderson - according to my records was likely born in 1819 not 1829. With a marriage date listed as 1842 - I think that it is unlikely that he married at age 13. My grandfather was Oscar mann Henderson. I can update your records on his children. Thanks again for this SUPER wealth of information! GREAT WORK!!!

I'm a descendant of Capt. George Bowen, an English Sea Captain who was raised in the West Indies, according to family papers, married in Charleston,S.C., died and buried in Charleston. His only surviving child was George Bowen who married Maria Tabitha Conant, moved to Laurens County,S.C. where he purchased a plantation in Waterloo,S.C., later they purchased a plantation in Mississippi where they lived, died and are buried. I am attempting to locate the parents of the immigrant Captain George Bowen, but so far have not had very much success. I keep HOPING though that SOMEONE will know something. Great website. Looking for information on the Garner's of Amity Arkansas and Williams. My Greatgrandfather is L. Garner and Married Grace Williams. They had seven children. My greatgrandfather died at an early age in an accident at work where he was pulled through a paper machine. And my greatgrandmother, Alice Garner passed away about 5 years ago on Valentine's day. If you have any information on this family I would be very interested to hear from you.

My grandfather was Bonnie Turner, and I have a copy of the picture displayed here of John W. Turner, Nancy Turner and numerous family members. My grandfather Bonnie and his wife Essie Mitchell Turner ran a small country store during the 50s,60s, and early 70s in Lodi, Arkansas. Thank you for putting this picture on the web site for future generations to see. The only mistake I saw was the older lady in the back of the photograph named Nancy Wadsworth Turner was not a Babbitt. The younger lady holding the child later married a Babbitt as your names indicate. The father in the picture, John died during the awful influenza outbreak in the late 1917's or 1918's.

I HAVE ALL THE FILES FOR THE STINNETTS,CIVIL WAR INDIAN,ETC. THIS IS FREE. EMAIL ME HERCHELL.STINNETT@BULL.COM Oldtime Wash Instructions to Papa Stinnett Years ago Mama Stinnett gave Papa Stinnett the following recipe for washing clothes. It appears below just as it was written and, despite the spelling, has a bit of philosophy. This is exactly as written and preserved in an old scrap book (with spelling intact). 1. Bilt fire in backyard to heat kettle of rain water. 2. Set tubs so smoke wont blow in eyes if wind is pert. 3. Shave one hole cake of lie soap in bilin water. 4. Sort things, make 3 piles. 1 pile white, 1 pile colored, 1 pile work britches and rags. 5. To make starch, stir flour in cool water to smooth, then thin down with bilin water. 6. Take white things, rub dirty spots on board, scrub hard, and then bile. Rub colored don't bile, just rinch and starch. 7. Take things out of kettle with broomstick handle, then rinch, and starch. 8. Hang old rags on fence. 9. Spread tea towels on grass. 10. Pore rinch water in flower bed. 11. Scrub porch with hot soapy water. 12. Turn tubs upside down. 13. Go put on clean dress, smooth hair with hair combs. Brew cup of tea, sit and rock a spell and count your blessings.

Does anyone have any information on the old Hopewell School or Church which was located between Delight and Pike City on the Strawberry Road? It's been gone for many years but I can't seem to find anything on Hopewell. I'm also trying to find information on a place up in that area called "Rock House" because that's where my grandmother, Josie Lamb Lewallen, was born. My sons and I happened upon your site, and got quite a kick out of finding all of their relatives (especially my youngest, Jady, who had never seen his name anywhere before we found his great grandfather, J.A. "Jady" Copeland). I could fill out quite a lot of your family trees for you, as all my relatives, maternal and paternal, are from the area. My great grandfather was S.B. Reese, author of "Corinth and It's Kinfolk" (and I have the original handwritten manuscript). I have cousins on both sides of my family that have traced our lines back to Europe, in some cases to the 1400's. One of them, Lucille Westbrook, of Nashville, may have the most information about this area of anyone alive. If I may be of any help, please let me know. Jay Brooks Reese

My first time at this site. My family goes way back in Pike county. My great great grandparents, are buried in the original old Paslay cemetary, back in the woods, accross the road from the Ebenezer cemetary at Kirby. My great great uncle, Pierce Paslay, who was born in Kirby way back before the turn of the century, took me and my cousin, Ira Paslay to show us where the old cemetary was located not long before he passed away. Uncle Pierce was in his 90's, when he took us there to show us where it was located. Had he not done so, we would have never known it was there. It had ben grown over for years, with thick under brush, and not been kept up. Ira and I were really glad uncle Pierce took us there. More than half the people buried in the Ebenezer cemetary are my relatives. Hulan Paslay

I'm the grandson of Charles Edward Key, #1811 in the descendents of William Key. My father, W.E. Key, Sr. has 6 children (including me), and 15 grandchildren (so far). Charles Edward had 4 children by 4 different wives (he had a 5th wife, with no children). My father was the first child, with Charles' 1st wife. Charles' youngest child is Eileen, who has 3 children. We are looking for the other 2 children of Charles Edward, presumeably late 40's-early 50's in age(?). (1 male, 1 female). Thanks for any help with this.

I've just pulled up the 1920 Census and Lo and Behold - The Sparks all live in the Boto Settlement; and that C.N. Sparks donated 2 acres for a cemetery; He, wife & daughter, Lillie, all have tombstones and there are three 'stones'place for the first burials. My Uncle and Aunt lived in Murfreesboro and are buried there. She was Ruby Lockamy Lowthrop and he was Jo Karner Lowthorp. She had a beauty shop for many years on the town square, later in her home. They were wonderful people and I have a lot of wonderful memories as a child of visiting them in Murfreesboro. The information on your page is really great. If anyone has any info on the Lowthorp's, would love to have it, will share what I have.

I have visited the cemetary at Corinth many years back with my father (Earnest Alvin Reese Jr.) and my sister. My father had always told me that my name was a family name so it was quite fascinating to visit the final resting place of so many Tacys and other ancestors that I had been reading about in a history of the Corinth Church written by my great-grandfather (Samuel Brooks Reese altho' he is referred to as Sloman Brooks in this site). He wrote this history, which is mainly about the families rather than the church, in 1931. I have a copy if anyone is interested. Thank you for this site!

Thank you for providing all this information. We need to correct my Grandfather's birthdate and age. James Lewis Fenter,(son of Joseph Washington Fenter) was born April 7, 1888 (not 1880) in Ark. He was 45 when he died in Antlers, OK on Jan 4, 1933. He and wife Lou Emma Crafton of Tenn. had two daughters (born in Elk City, OK): Myrtle Fenter Bearden who will be 96 this coming August 2006; and Jewell Fenter Bailey ( my mother ) who will be 94 on May 18, 2006. I have a fairly complete listing of Fenter Family of Ark and OK (descendants of Christian Fenter of Malvern/Hot Springs. I notice they have Uncle Joseph Austin Fenter as being born in Elk City,OK. He was actually born in Arkansas. The family moved to Honey Grove, TX in 1891. (I have his auto-biography.)

I should like to make some corrections to the AR Connection which starts with "Person Page 117": Page 4: Martha Elmira Brown was known to the famly as "Polly." The first name of Joseph Riley and Louisiana Wall's first son is "Berry", not Barry. At page 5, Margaret Elizabeth Holladay Jones was called "Miss Betty", not "Miss Holladay."Same correction re "Barry" instead of the correct "Berry" on page 7. Marttha Ellen Jones on page 7 had never been called Mary Ellen and I knew her and the family personally into my late teens. At page 8 my name may be entered under that of Gladys Evelyn Wall as the only child of Gladys and her first husband. I was born 5 October 1926 in Pleasanton, Texas and after my mother's 2d marriage to George Andre Rauer, I was adopted by him so used the name Mary Evelyn Rauer until my marriage in Flushing, Mew york on 26 April 1952 to Francis B. White (b. 8 November 1915 in New York City and died 22 October 1997 in Bentonville, AR.) There were two children of this marriage: Daniel John Andrew White, b 17 March 1962in New Jersey and Thomas Christopher White, b 22 July in Tokyo, Japan. At page 10, the name Eva Harvey should be Exa Harvey. I hope these corrections will prove helpful.

An Arkansas Connection is a great gathering place for kin and not-very-close kin. My credentials for making the following corrections are that I am the granddaughter of Josiah Wall and Martha (never"Mary") Ellen (Holladay) Wall. I knew both, since I was born on 5 October 1926 to Gladys Evelyn (Wall) Miller and Charles Largen Miller. (After their divorce, Gladys married George Andre Rauer who adopted me, and so I was known as Mary Evelyn Rauer.) I was in my late teens and early twenties when my Wall greatgrandfather and my Jones greatgrandmother died. They (and my maternal grandparents) were people I knew personally: ggrandmother Jones was known as "Miss Betty" by her husband and, when teasing, by most other members of the family; to the best of my knowledge, she was never known as Miss Holladay. Jacques Pintel, the first husband of Margaret Ethel Wall, died in 1939 (plus or minus 1 year)in Brooklyn, New York. Her second marriage to Herbert Jenkel was in New York in l952. To round out the family history in my line, On April 26 1952,I married Francis B. White (son of John M. W. and Bertie (Heine) W) b 1915 in New York. F. B. White died in Bentonville, Arkansas, on 11 October 1997. Our two children are Daniel John-Adrew White, b. 17 March 1962 in Plainfield, New Jersey, and Thomas Christopher White, b. 22 July 1964 in Tokyo, Japan. Daniel is married to Kaija Leigh (Newton) and has two children: Micah Erin and Kaitlin Leigh. Thomas Christopher is married to Meko Grace (Lovic) and has four children: Halladay Evgenia (adopted), Anna Irena (adopted), Elena Grace, and Leif Daniel. I hope these additions and corrections will help someone in his research.

Oops! The date of death for Francis B. White is 22 October 1997 (I'm a terrible typist). Also The name of Sam Wall's wife was Exa, not Eva. (Although she was born in Washington (state), her parents missed Texas and to make sure she came to appreciate that state, they dropped the first and last letter of Texas to form her name.) She died around the turn of the century in San Antonio.
