____________________________________________________________________________ Preemption Proof State of Arkansas, County of Hempstead, United States of America Be it remembered, that, on the 6th Jany. 1840, Abner H. Hancock of Pike County personally appeared before me, the undersigned, an acting Justice of the Peace in and for the county, aforesaid, and on his oath deposes & says: That, he is the head of a family consisting of a wife and two children. That in the year 1833 he cultivated a tract of the public lands of the United States, to wit: a portion of the southwest quarter of section thirteen in township eight, south of range twenty-six west in the district of lands subject to sale at Washington, Arkansas. That in said year (1833) he had in cultivation & under fence on said tract about ten acres, planted principally in corn, that he was in possession of the said tract by personal residence thereon, with his family, on the 19th June 1834, and that at both of these dates there were dwelling houses and other outhouses on said land, and further says not. Hancock who signed the foregoing deposition and that they know the matters and things set forth in his deposition are strictly true and further say not.
