                   Our Forty-Seventh Wedding Anniversary.

                       Hamburg, Ark., Mar. 2, (1934).

Editor Pike County Courier:

This day my mind has been concentrated upon Pike County, Arkansas, where I

spent my childhood, youth and young manhood. The chief event however that

has been on my mind was the marriage of myself to Miss Dora Scott on March

2, 1887 at the home of her sister, Mrs. Lum Holland, in the town of

Murfreesboro. Only three of those who were present are now living, Mrs. Lum

Holland, Mrs. Mack Holland, both of California, and my brother Henry, of

Arkadelphia. I have been thinking of the boys and girls, who were my pupils

in the schools I taught. My first school 1878 (was) at Saline, where the

Brocks, Mansfields, Scotts and other(s) lived. Then at Bills where I taught

several sessions. Then two years 1883-84 at Murfreesboro, where the Alfords,

Thomassons, Davises, Brewers, Lewises, Evans, Branches and many others

attended. (I) am glad to know many of these have made good and useful

citizens. We are in our twelfth year in Hamburg. I was pastor of the

Methodist church here for four years 1915-16-17-18, and now I am

surperannuated and have a home here. We have perhaps the largest

consolidated public school in the state. About 1,000 pupils. We regretted

very much to part with Prof. Alford. Mrs. Dean and I are living a great

happy life. Our twin daughters both live here. Many of our friends called

today, and greeted us lovingly on our "anniversary." We send our best wishes

to the Editor and all of our friends. I was a subscriber to the first paper

published at Murfreesboro I think.

                              Respectfully,

                               Chase Dean

P.S. Have known Brother and Sister Doak a long time. They are OK. - S.C.D.
