and Union (counties) ... In 1814, the court divided the township of Center
and the bounds of Captain William Thornton's Company, being a militia
company, was formed into a new township to be known as Elvira. A History of

This Indenture made this seventh day of October in the year of our Lord one
thousand eight hundred & seventeen. Between William McDonald of the County
of Johnson and Territory of Illinois of the one part and Jonathan Haskey of
the same place, of the other part. Witnesseth that, the said McDonald for
and in consideration of the sum of five hundred dollars to him in hand paid
by the said Haskey, the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged, hath by
these presents & doth Give, Grant, bargain and sell & convey unto the said
Huskey, his heirs and assigns forever, all that tract or parcel of land
lying and being situate in the County of Johnson, to wit: the south west
quarter of section number eighteen in township number 13 South of Range
number one west, containing two hundred and four acres and 80/100 of an
acres, to have and to hold the aforesaid tract of land, together with all
and singular the rights, profits, herediments and appurtenances of, in and
to the same belonging, or in any wise appertaining, to him the said
Haskey, his heirs and assigns forever, to his and their own proper use and
benefit and behoof. And the said McDonald for himself, his heirs, Executors
and Administrators, do hereby covenant and agree to and with the said
Haskey, his heirs, Executors, Administrators and assigns, to warrant and
forever defend the aforesaid tract of land and bargained premises against
the claim of all and every person or persons whatsoever, and further convey
all certificates and patterns for said land to him, the aforesaid Haskey,
for his own proper use. In witness whereof, the said McDonald and wife have
