The father of John and Elias Huffman, (I do not recall his given name) came
to Clark County from Pennsylvania at an early day, perhaps about 1830. The
old man Hoofman, (Huffman is likely the proper name) was a German Dunkard,
the only one I think who ever came to the County (Clark). The old man
Huffman died many years ago. He was a frugal industrious citizen. His sons
John and Elias and other sons whose names are not now remembered became
permanent and prosperous citizens. John Huffman, Jr., married a daughter of
William Gentry. Old Clark County, The Southern Standard, Arkadelphia,
February 15, 1889, (Series) No. VIII, page 2.

John Huffman was born in Pennsylvania ... (and) known as a German Dunkard
... the German Baptist Brethren. His wife was Mary M. (maiden) name
unknown. They were married ... in Pennsylvania where three of their
daughters were born. (They) ... were closely connected with the
Clingensmith ... family of Westmoreland County, Pa. ... They moved westward
down the Ohio river on a flat boat to Kentucky and on to Missouri where two
of the Clingensmith(s) ... married two ... Huffman daughters. John and Mary
M. Huffman's children were born in Pennsylvania, Kentucky, Illinois and
Missouri as they (moved) westward. They lived in the Cape Girardeau area
about fifteen years before moving down the Mississippi River (and) into
Clark County, Arkansas then a territory ... They were in Clark County as
early as 1826 living within a few miles of Greenville ... Our Ancestors,
