One of his duties was to lay off a road, south through Bellevue Valley. The County Records show that it was extended past Shiloh Meeting House in Bellevue, stating the name which is proof the church was there in 1814. But William Stevenson looked ahead and saw greater things to do. In 1817, he organized a group to go to Arkansas from the membership of the Methodist Church. It was a threat to the life of the young church because he did have a large following. With this group from the Bellevue Valley Church (Shiloh), Stevenson organized the Methodist church in Arkansas and preached in Texas. The church at Shiloh rallied, rebuilt the congregation, and was happy to have sent the missionary group which accomplished such a great thing in the name of Methodism.
