That, we, Wm. Wingfield & Joel Holcomb, are held and firmly bound unto his
Excellency the Governor, for the time being, this principle in the penal
Sum of L50 current money to which payment will & truly be made. We bind
ourselves, heirs, &c., jointly and severally, firmly by these presents,
sealed & dated this 6th day of September, 1806. The condition of the above
obligation is such that:

Whereas, there is a marriage shortly intended to be solemnized between the
above bound William Wingfield & Sophia Holcomb for which a License has
(been) Issued. Now, if there shall be no lawful cause to obstruct said
marriage, then this obligation to be void, else, to remain in full force &
virtue.

On this 29th day of October A.D. on thousand eight hundred and fifty-one,
personally appeared before me, Jas. A.S. Purdom an acting justice of the
peace duly authorized to administer oaths within and for the County and
State aforesaid, William Wingfield aged 70 years, a resident of Lafayette
County in the State of Arkansas, who being duly sworn according to law,
declares that he is the identical William Wingfield who was a Volunteer in
the Company comannded by Captain Samuel Judy in the Illinois Regiment of
Mounted Volunteers commanded by Genl. Howard in the war with Great Britian
declared by the United States on the 18th June 1812; that he volunteered
in 1814 at Camp Russell in Illinois ... for the term of Two months and
continued in actual service in said war for the term of Two months and was
honorably discharged at Camp Russell on the (date not recollected), A.D.
1814 ... as will appear by (his certificate of discharge ... was
unreceived) the muster rolls of said Company.

He makes this declaration for the purpose of obtaining the bounty land to
which he may be entitled under the "act granting bounty land to certain
officers or soldiers who have been engaged in the military service of the
United States," passed September 28th, 1850.

Sworn to and subscribed before me the day and year above written. And I
hereby certify, that I believe the said William Wingfield to be the
identical man who served as aforesaid, and that he is of the age above
stated.

Know all Men by these Presents, That William Wingfield of the county of La
Fayette (sic) and State of Arkansas have constituted and appointed, and by
these presents do constitute and appoint CLEMENT W. BENNETT, of Washington,
(D.C.) my true and lawful Attorney, irrevocably for me and in my name to
receive from the United States the bounty land certificate or warrant, or
Pension certificate, and all such sum or sums of money due me on account of
arrears of pay, or three month's extra pay, forage, mileage, or any money
or moneys which may be due me by the United States on any account
whatsover, and generally to do all lawful acts and things whatsoever
touching the premises and attorney or attornies under him for the purpose
aforesaid, to make and at his pleasure revoke, hereby confirming all and
whatsoever my said attorney shall in my name legally do or cause to be done
in and about the premises.

In testimony whereof, I have herunto set my name and seal, this twnety
ninth day of October 1851.

Hempstead Co., Ark. the son of John Wesley Wingfield of the same place, who
was the son of William and Elvira Wingfield who lived at Lavaca Co., Texas.
Maiden name of subject's mother was Nancy Rebecca Ward, dau. of Isaac Ward
of Clark Co., Ark. Subject was educated in Claiborne Parish, La. He entered
the ministry in 1871 in Ark. and La., ... a Democrat, M.P. (Methodist
Preacher), and Mason. Served as Sargeant in Co. E, 31st La. Regt. under
Capt. Shelby Bancom. Married Margaret Lucinia Johnson, dau. of William
Henry and Lucinia Johnson of Ga., on July 7, 1859, Columbia Co., Ark.
