News has just reached this place of the drowning of Elijah Gilman son of Mr.
Davis Gilman of Royston yesterday morning about 9 o'clock (June 18, 1883).
Elijah and his little sister were playing near the river just above the
factory. His little sister left him and went up on the hill to a swing; and
after a while she returned but failed to find her brother. She at once
reported his absence, and on search being made, his body was found near a
skiff. It is supposed that he fell out of the skiff into the river. Elijah
was a bright boy about 12 years old. His parents have the sympathy of all
the people.
