                  Pioneer Citizen of County Died Saturday.                   
                                                                             
W.J. Alford, aged 66, died at the family home at Kirby last Saturday. Mr.    
Alford fell dead in the yard at his home, and never regained consciousness.  
He had been a resident of Pike county practically all of his life, and was   
one of the pioneer citizens that was well and favorably known throughout     
this section of the state. He is survived by his widow, six children, 4 boys 
and two girls: Luther of Murfreesboro, Matthew and Lee of Kansas City,       
Forest of Gover (sp), Texas, Mrs. Belvie Anderson of Kirby, and Miss Zella   
Alford of Kirby. Funeral services and burial was had at Kirby Sunday.
