Elizabeth Margaret Carpenter was born on July 10, 1824 at Middletown, Jefferson County, KY. She was the daughter of George Franklin Carpenter and Sarah "Sallie" Powell. Elizabeth Margaret Carpenter married William Thomas Green "Willis" Montgomery on September 15, 1844 at Lincoln County, KY. Date of marriage may be 16th. Elizabeth Margaret Carpenter was buried in July, 1911 at Edwardsville, Custer County, OK. She died on July 26, 1911 at Sayre, Beckham County, OK, at age 87.      Elizabeth moved to Arkansas with her three young children and made the run to Oklahoma in 1889, along with her youngest son, William. She staked a claim on 160 acres, three miles west of what is now (1997) called the Foss dam on Soldier Creek. Lindsay followed in 1894. [Montgomery biography from Prarie Fire, a biographical book published by the Southwest OK Genealogical Society]      This passage was later disputed by evidence found in the obituary for Elizabeth's youngest child, Willis Green Montgomery, Jr. The obit, dated 1943, stated that Elizabeth and the children moved to Texas, not Arkansas, after Willis Sr.'s death in 1863 in Tennessee.      Per records, Elizabeth staked her claim in 1892.      Elizabeth M. CARPENTER [Parents] 1 was born 2, 3 10 Jul 1824 in Middletown, Jefferson County, KY. She died 4, 5 26 Jul 1911 in Sayre, Beckham County, OK. Elizabeth married 6, 7 Willis Green MONTGOMERY on 15 Sep 1844 in Lincoln County, KY.      "Elizabeth was born in Middletown, in Jefferson County, KY, near the Shelby County line (which was originally a part of Jefferson County). Lindsey Pascal was a name used by the Shelby County family of Carpenters. They were descended from George Carpenter of Switzerland...and later, Rockingham County, Virginia. Their descendents founded "Carpenter's Station" in Jefferson County in 1780-81 (later to become Shelby County). Elizabeth married Willis Montgomery in Lincoln County, KY on September 15, 1844." [Several members of the Carpenter Genealogy Mail List (on the Internet) reported this citing in 1997 from purported Carpenter Bible records]      "Sometime during the late 1950s, the community of Edwardsville, OK (where Elizabeth, LPC, and Suzie were originally buried) was permanently flooded at the bottom of the newly formed Foss Lake. Before construction on the Foss Dam even began, all the graves in the cemetery at Edwardsville were exhumed and re-interred in a section of the Canute, OK cemetery. That section is still clearly marked as the 'Edwardsville Cemetery'." [Monte Joe Montgomery, 1998].
