Mary Key

John Key was born on July 11, 1630 at Settrington, East Riding, Yorkshire, England. He was the son of Andrew Key and Ellen ______.      Dr. Gene Key states that there is some confusion about the parents of the children of Edmund and John. It seems that Mary is assigned to Edmund by all the sources I've found. The other known children are assigned to John. According to Dr. Key "None of the children except Mary and John Jr. are shown as having descendants in this work, therefore the matter of which children belonged to which brother does not impact on the contents herein. The children have been diligently researched with no success at this time."      John and Edmund were granted land in Charles City County, VA when they arrived in America. The existing measure was 50 acres per person, including children. The granted land on the south side of the James River, that area later became Prince George's County. That area later become Prince George's county. Mary, daughter of Edmund, married John Waller III in England and immigrated to America around the same time as John Key. They and their descendents lived alongside John's descendents for three generations along the Mataponie River in New Kent County, later King William County and ultimately Spotsylvania County. John Key married Elizabeth ______. John Key died at Charles City, Charles City County, VA.

Martin Key II died in May, 1757 at Louisa County, VA.      A guardian bond dated May 24, 1757 lists Elizabeth Key as the widow of Martin Key and names four underage children: Will, Thomas, Jack, and Luck. In a marginal note beside this entry, the clerk wrote that Martin Key died in May, 1757. Philipand Millicent Burford sold 242 acres to Martin Key III. on May 24, 1757 On that same day, a 100 acre tract adjacent to this was given to Thomas Key "for love and good will they hath for the said Thomas Key and in consideration of the sum of Five Schillings Sterling..."

All his children by Martha Center were born before their marriage in 1782. His will is found in will book #2, 1799-1820, Henry County, Virginia. It appears that all of Martha's children were from a pervious marriage and later changed their names from Center to Key.]. George Key married Isabelle Kennedy on November 14, 1785 at Albemarle County, VA. [One source has Bedford County, Virginia.]. George Key died in 1799 at Henry County, VA.
