Elizabeth Hancock
Act of September 28, 1850

The State of Arkansas,
County of Pike,
I, Elizabeth Hancock, of the County of Pike in the State of Arkansas and
widow of William Hancock late of said County, deceased, being first duly
sworn do depose and say: That, I, was lawfully married to William Hancock by
Samuel Dickson, Esquire, a Justice of the Peace in and for the County of
Jackson in the State of Tennessee on the first day of February in the year
one thousand eight hundred and twenty one in the County of Jackson in the
State of Tennessee; that, I, do not know whether there was a record of said
marriage made or not; that the said William Hancock departed this life some
years since in the County of Pike in the State of Arkansas leaving this
affiant, his widow, and several children; that William T. Dickson and Lydia
Hancock of the County of Pike in the State of Arkansas were present at said
marriage and know the fact(s) as stated above to be true; that I am the
identical person making application as the widow of William Hancock,
deceased, for Bounty (Land) under the act of Congress of the 28th day of
September A.D. 1850 and that there is no fraud or attempt to defraud in
making application for the privileges of said act being extended to me on my
said application.

Sworn to and subscribed by the said Elizabeth Hancock widow of William
Hancock deceased, before me, the undersigned Justice of the Peace of Pike
County in the State of Arkansas, duly commissioned and qualified as such,
this the 29th day of April, A.D. 1852.

We, William T. Dickson and Lydia Hancock, of the County of Pike in the State
of Arkansas, being first duly sworn do depose and say: That, we, were
present at the marriage of the above named Elizabeth Hancock to William
Hancock (on) the first day of February in the year eighteen-hundred and
Twenty-one in Jackson County (in the) State of Tennessee; that the said
marriage was performed by Samuel Dickson, Esquire, a Justice of the Peace in
and for the County of Jackson in the State of Tennessee as stated and set
forth in the foregoing affidavit of the said Elizabeth Hancock and that the
said William Hancock departed this life some years since in the County of
Pike in the State of Arkansas and that the said William Hancock and
Elizabeth Hancock lived together as man and wife from the time of their said
marriage up to the day of his death, and that we have no knowledge of any
Public record being made of said marriage.

Sworn to and subscribed by the said William T. Dickson and Lydia Hancock,
before me, the undersigned Justice of the Peace in and for the County of
Pike in the State of Arkansas, duly commissioned and qualified as such this
the 29th day of April, A.D. 1852.

I, Lewis Huddleston, Sheriff of Pike County in the State of Arkansas being
first duly sworn, do depose and say: That, I, am Sheriff of Pike County in
the State of Arkansas and have been some Years past; that I was personally
acquainted with William Hancock late of said County, deceased, in his life
time; that he departed this life some years since in said County leaving
Elizabeth Hancock, his widow; that I am personally acquainted with the said
Elizabeth Hancock and William T. Dickson and Lydia Hancock who have deposed
to the foregoing affidavit, that they are persons of high(es)t
respectability and worthy of every confidence.

Sworn to and subscribed before me, the undersigned Justice of the Peace in
and for the County of Pike and State of Arkansas, duly commissioned and
qualified as such on the 3rd day of May A.D. 1852.

I, Thomas K. Dossey, Clerk of the Circuit Court in and for the County of
Pike in the State of Arkansas, do hereby certify that Thomas J. Conway,
Esquire, before whom the within and foregoing affidavits were taken and
made, is and was at the time of taking and certifying the said affidavits of
Elizabeth Hancock and William T. Dickson and Lydia Hancock and Lewis
Huddleston, an acting Justice of the Peace in and for the County of Pike in
the State of Arkansas, duly commissioned and qualified as such, and that
full faith and confidence are due his acts as such Justice of the Peace and
I further certify, that I am personally acquainted with Elizabeth Hancock
widow of William Hancock, deceased, William T. Dickson and Lydia Hancock and
Lewis Huddleston, Sheriff of Pike County, Arkansas the affiant, and that
they are all persons of highest respectability and entitled to the most
implicit confidence and I further certify that William Hancock departed this
life some years since in Pike County in the State of Arkansas leaving the
said Elizabeth Hancock his widow.
In testimony whereof, I, the said Thomas K. Dossey have hereunto set my hand
as such clerk and affixed the seal of said Circuit Court on this 3rd day of
May A.D. 1852.
