The Courier office caught fire yesterday from a spark on its shingle roof,
and had it not been for its early discovery, the building and contents
would have been destroyed. Aunt Elisa Johnson, a colored woman, was passing
near, and seeing the fire gave the alarm. A goodly number of citizens
hastened to our relief and did heroic work in our behalf, for which they
have our thanks. Due to the dry condition of the Courier's well, water was
the big question, but the valiant help given soon overcame that, and the
flame was extinguished without any damgage except to the roof.
