William H. Preston came from Kentucky to Arkansas about 1833, and firt
located at Washington as a merchant. in connection with a man named Huling,
the firm being know as Preston & Huling. Afterward he went to Greenville,
the then county seat of Clark county, and from thence to Murfreesboro.
There he was quite successful, acquired a good deal of money, and, except
for the war, would have grown quite wealthy. He was a man of infinite good
humor, and had the good will of everybody. He was singularly honest and
square in his dealings with his fellow men, and died much regretted.
